Whether you are navigating writer’s block as you draft a novel manuscript or are curious where to start building skills as a poet–or wherever you might be on your path as a writer, I’d love to offer you my support in one-on-one mentoring sessions.
I have been obsessed with writing for most of my life, seeking out advice from books and teachers and fellow writers, and I am eager to share what I’ve learned through experience and education with you, too.
My background: I hold an MFA in Creative Writing. I taught writing to college students for two years. I have experience as an editor for two literary magazines. I have published poetry and essays in a handful of magazines, including an award-winning essay in 2025. I wrote art criticism & reporting for regional magazines for four years. My memoir manuscript is in progress.
Mentorship sessions are tailored to your own goals, desires, needs, and peculiarities. I don’t believe there is one right way to write. We all have our own style and our own voice, my interest is in making sure more people bring theirs into the world.
Okay, but what would we talk about?
It might include:
- getting words onto the blank page
- generating ideas
- prompts or starting places for writing practice
- what you’ve written recently, with feedback (if you’d like)
- elements of craft
- literary magazine submissions
- publication pathways
- what to read
- how to read as a writer
- solutions to problems that come up as you write
How It Works:
We start with a complimentary introduction call. I’ll ask about where you’re at as a writer, what you’d like to work on or towards, and your experience in the past. I’ll share some ideas about how we might work together and answer any questions you’ve got.
We can work together as needed or on a regular schedule. Weekly sessions work great for a lot of people, but we can arrange whatever works best for you. Sessions are billed on an hourly basis.
If you are local to Kansas City, MO, I’d also be happy to meet in person.
Email me with any questions or to schedule an intro call!
